About the event
Spaces of Fontana's CONTEMPORARY FORMS WORKSHOP, led by Artistic Director, Evelyn Joy Hoelscher weaves together somatic grounding, technical fusion, and expansive physicality. Beginning with a floor-based warm-up rooted in Bartenieff fundamentals, yoga, and Pilates, dancers build strength, articulation, and awareness while preparing the body for complex movement. Improvisational tasks and short phrases explore efficiency, momentum, and transitions between floor and standing work, progressing toward a full-bodied combination that blends athletic rigor with dynamic flow.
Evelyn's classes are informed by her choreographic research into play, storytelling, and resilience in the body. Current explorations emphasize grounded floorwork, clarity in initiation, and cultivating freedom within structure—inviting dancers to push their physical edges while staying deeply connected to their own artistry.
